Our Story
A room built for reading, not skimming
Riventis began as a small filing project and grew into a home for public records work across Nigeria.

How We Started
From a single filing cabinet to a shared reading room
Riventis started when a small group of researchers in Calabar grew tired of documents that arrived without context — pages torn from their source, dates missing, no way to know where a claim had come from. We began keeping our own index, noting exactly where each paper had been requested and received.
That habit became the foundation of what we do now: a library where every document keeps its provenance, and every citation points back to a real page and paragraph.
What drives us hasn't changed much since those early years — a belief that public papers are easier to trust when you can see exactly where they came from.
What Guides Us
Three things we hold to
01
Provenance First
A statement without a page reference isn't finished. We keep the trail from request to release attached to everything we hold.
02
Measured Reading
Findings stay within what the papers actually show. We'd rather note a gap plainly than fill it with a guess.
03
Open Access
The library is built for researchers, students, and civic groups alike — not gatekept behind jargon or unnecessary complexity.
